making fake cakes 🎂 tutorial in description!

spent the last few days ‘frosting’ these fake cakes! i love how they came out so i thought i’d share🩷

the bases of the minis are small magnetic canvases from hobby lobby (they have different shapes too!) and the wall hanging is cardboard that i cut to shape and taped to be 3 dimensional!

once you have your base you can either paint it, if your base has a nice surface, or you can spread ‘frosting’ (used lightweight spackle and a little acrylic paint) with a pallet knife

then it’s time to break out the piping bags and tips (used for crafting ONLY) to frost and decorate to your hearts content 💕

to add some extra ✨ to my wall hanging i just used butterflies from dollar tree and polymer clay to sculpt the mushrooms

Additional Tips:

• have a cup of water handy to dip your pallet knife into to smooth imperfections

• practice!!!! be sure to try a few piping techniques before you start your cake - i got a practice sheet off of pinterest!

• bag your ‘frosting’ separately from your piping tip and then place the full bag in the piping tip bag to keep spackle off your hands

• don’t fill the piping bag too much, it’s not too hard to add more later, about 2/3rds is plenty

• throw a little elastic on the twisted end of the piping bag to keep frosting from spilling out
