Landing the first role I applied to?! 🥹

Yes, I seriously landed the first job I applied to out of my entire jobhunt 🤯

I went through a rollercoaster of emotions throughout my jobhunt - applied to 100+ roles, anxiously waiting for HR calls, stressing out over interviews/assessment centres, and I basically couldn’t stop worrying 😥 Despite all my efforts, I was still unemployed… But I finally saw light at the end of the tunnel and got an offer!!! 🥹

Here’s what I’ve learned from this experience & some tips that can hopefully help in your jobhunt journey🤓💼

1️⃣ Your worth is not defined by your ability to land a role/your job.

Gentle reminder that you girlies (and doods) have completed an entire university course, and you’ve probably grown so much since the start 👧🏻 The job market is really bad right now, and there are a combination of various factors that can affect your chances. You r amazing - employed or not! 🫶🏻✨

2️⃣ Plan your jobhunt 📝

I tried to structure my applications as much as possible, starting with the companies/roles I really wanted to work at 🤭 In doing so, you’ll be an earlier applicant for these roles and possibly stand a higher chance too! Also, I feel like it helps get your gears going - I personally felt excited (and hopeful) as I started applying, and couldn’t wait to start #adulting …. LOL This also gets those roles out of the way, so that you can continue to apply for other positions.

3️⃣ Set goals & track your progress

Personally, I set a goal of applying ~5 jobs per day. Though, that didn’t happen cos I was more of a spam-all-at-one-go (oops) 😳 I tracked my progress in a google sheet indicating the roles I’ve applied to, date of application, and status of application. Together, they really helped me to be on the ball with job applications - it’s honestly a very tedious and tiring process, and it’s easy to give up and just stop completely ☹️ It was encouraging to see the number of applications go up which shows i’m making progress! You can also keep track of the application stages you are at/rejections if any because it can get really overwhelming later on 😵‍💫

4️⃣ You are not alone 🤝🏻

To some, job hunting may be a personal thing & a lonely process. But you are not alone in this journey! My friends & family were a great source of support - they were always there to encourage me and cheer me on 😭 You can speak to your friends, or even seniors - they could offer you valuable insights and advice from a different perspective. Some of them may even be able to help you out with a referral 😉 If you are ever feeling burnt out, don’t be afraid to reach out 😊

5️⃣ Don’t give up!

You NEVER KNOW, you just need that ONE company to interview you & land yourself a job offer. Don’t compare yourself to others and be focused on your personal journey & goals. You can do it!!!! 🤍✨
