One thing I’ve tried to balance my hormones during bleed week is seed cycling. Essentially, seed cycling is eating certain types of seeds during different phases of your menstrual cycle to promote estrogen and progesterone production. Here’s how it works:

*Phase 1: Menstrual and Follicular Phase*

From the first day of your bleed to the day before ovulation, you will consume 1 tbsp each of pumpkin and flax seeds. These seeds are used to promote the rise or regulation of estrogen in the body.

*Phase 2: Ovulation and Luteal Phase*

From the day you ovulate until your period begins, have 1 tbsp of both sunflower and sesame seeds. These seed are used to promote the rise or regulation of progesterone in the body.

Overall, seed cycling can regulate your hormones if done correctly. The recommended way of consuming these seeds is to purchase ground seeds or grind them yourself, as the shell casings on most seeds are hard for the body to digest. As a girl with PCOS who will throw seeds in quite a few of my meals or eat them plain, I’d say this was a win win for me!
