SMILE surgery in South Korea 🇰🇷👓

Here is my first post on lemon8 - and it’s about my SMILE (vision correction) surgery that I did in South Korea! 👓 SMILE is a new type of vision correction surgery that is flapless unlike LASIK - which works out well for my lifestyle cos I do sports 😃

Decided to do it here cos it’s significantly cheaper and the tech is much more advanced! I did SMILE PRO (using Visumax 800) which the Dr told me that there is only 20 machines available in Korea. After researching, I believe only 2 clinics has this machine in Singapore at the time of writing (Eagle Eye & LSC). 🥸

💭 Here are the deets for my surgery:

🌱 Where: BGN Eye Clinic Jamsil Tower with Dr Kim Jung Wan (he’s the chief dr here)

🌱 When: July 2024

🌱 How: I booked a same day eye check + surgery through FB messenger which was easy and fast!

🌱 Price: I paid 4,000,000KRW after discounts and this price includes a very extensive eye check up, DNA test, surgery price.

I did my first follow up 2 days later that costed 25,000KRW (includes another eye test and Dr consult). This is significantly cheaper compared to SG private clinics where they will charge $100 and above for follow ups and excl GST 😱

They also provide free eye correction surgery in case of non perfect eyesight. 👀

🌱 Outcome: I could see almost instantly (though a lil hazy) and had to be on strict eye drop routine for the first day - afterwards 4x a day eye drop routine.

🌱 Overall experience: Had an English consultant (Anh) who was very thorough and spoke PERFECT English so you could totally ask her anything and clarify your worries! They previously told me the eye check up may take up to 3h but they were much faster than that! I entered the clinic at 2pm and left by 430pm. Super efficient!
