If you’re like me, I had a sudden huge hormonal acne outbreak – the worse since 2011.. when I was 15. I was struggling with it for months since last December and I have finally put together the products that have been working for me for the last 2-3 months. My skin isn’t 100% back to what it was yet, but these will take months, and I’d reckon at least 3.

My skin’s barrier was damaged and thin, and these are what I have been using for the last few months. My focus was to moisturise and rebuild my skin barrier, before using any other active ingredients again (besides benzoyl peroxide). If you have been struggling for the longest time, I hope these will work for you too.

These are part of my night time routine, and I just remove 1-2 products for my morning routine. I tend to keep my products during the recovery period consistent.

1. Panoxyl

MY ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE! When I first started using this my face experienced the worse reaction to a new active ingredient. It felt like sandpaper for a week and was super dry. But after my skin got past the initial phase of getting use to the product, it has helped soooooo much to prevent acne from forming. Obviously, results aren’t immediate, but give it a few months.

2. Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist

A new found favourite! I recently got it during the Sephora Sale (and found out it is cheaper on iHerb), and I found it has been so calming and moisturising for my skin! Ready handy to have with a mist function.

3. La Roche Posy Hyaluronic B5 Serum

I got this when I was in Korea as it was on a BIG sale, and La Roche Posay never fails me. This product is super moisturising and I can feel the difference on my skin when I don’t use it! If you are thinking about getting this, DO IT! But do remember to apply on damp skin.

4. Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum

I use this for addition hydration. This is a cult favourite for good reason – it is very calming and hydrating. On days that I need to be quick with skin care (or a tad lazy), I skip my Hyaluronic B5 Serum and use this only.

5. Glow Recipe Niacinamide

On my second bottle of this!! Niacinamide claims to help visibly minimise enlarged pores, tighten lax pores, improve uneven skin tone, soften fine lines and wrinkles, diminish dullness, and strengthen a weakened surface. And I found this to have been very helpful for my pores and textured skin that came about as a result of my huge breakout. I have used the ordinary’s one before, but it didn’t work very well.

6. Glow Recipe Ceramide Recovery Serum

I love using this on fresh spots or freshly squeezed blackeads/acne! Sometimes we don’t have a choice when it appears like the blackhead/acne is really about to pop. So we squeeze it.. oops. And I like to put this over to soothe the irritation and calm the skin on and around the spot.

7. La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5

LOVE THIS. Another cult favourite for a reason. I like to use this on my skin to soothe irritated skin and also prevent irritation. At the end of my skincare routine, I love to dab this over my spots as a spot treatment. Works wonders!

8. Ole Henrikson Strength Trainer Peptide Boost Moisturiser

I am sooooo getting a second tub of this. This moisturiser is PACKED with everything you every need. It’s perfect for both night and day. Here’s the ingredient list: 8 peptides, Essential Fatty Acids, 3 Ceramides, 8 Amino Acids, Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin E, Vitamin B12, Niacinamide, Panthenol, Collagen, Natural Moisturising Factors (NMFs), and Humectants… wow

Need I say more why you need this?

9. Farmacy Honey Halo

I use this at night after my Ole Henrikson moisturiser and an extra layer of moisturiser that contain ceramides! This is incredibly moisturising and all I need is a tad of product for my entire skin! Another cult favourite for a reason. However, I do use this in the day if my skin is extra dry.
