Watch these movies instead on Valentine's day

Ok, so Valentine's Day is fast approaching, and if you are broke or have no plans yet (cause spending more money ??? in this economy??? #notforme ) I'm here with some movie recommendations that you and your loved ones can enjoy together from the comfort of your own home.

While Vday brings about many of the same old romantic comedy titles, i sifted through to recommend some real gems that are relatable and enjoyable without being too cliche or simply a movie that you've probably watched 500 times (cough, 500 days of summer)

Celeste and Jess Forever

I don't think many have actually watched this, but it's really underrated and good! The cast is stellar and very lovable and centres around a divorcing couple who want to remain as good friends while they come to terms with their newly separated status. An interesting and relatable plot! Also, it does not hurt that the actors are also pretty comedic, making this movie not just relatable but it also sneaking in a few laughs.

Liberal Arts

Does anybody else love how i met your mother? Liberal Arts is brought to life with Josh Radnor, the actor who played Ted Mosby. He directed, produced, and starred in this comedy-drama film that centres around the life of a 35-year-old college admissions officer who falls in love with a college student. This is an enjoyable nostalgic film sprinkled with some laughs and a good romance.

Populaire

I'm a sucker for anything with pretty art direction, and Populaire sure is a film that looks good and also has a very interesting plot. This French rom com tells the story of a lady who is a terrible secretary but brilliant typist, and her boss, Louis Echard, who sees her talent as a typist and is determined to train her to become the fastest typist in the world and win an international speed typing contest . The story is quirky and enjoyable while also being kinda cute.

Begin Again

Ok, so maybe you've watched this before, but hey, it was good. Was it not? Although it has Adam levine (lol, i know) but this movie is simple to follow and has an endearing storyline. This breezy romance film also has a great soundtrack, so what's not to love, right?

Obvious Child

It is a very relatable story of life. Life is all about unexpected curveballs, and this story follows a young woman who is going through a rough patch in her personal life. After a turbulent breakup, she decides to have a one-night stand that results in an unexpected pregnancy. If that wasn't stressful enough, the abortion she schedules is on Valentine's Day. It's a funny and interesting story that speaks of abortion in an interesting light.
