TEMU is an online retail store where everything (literally everything) is available at a ridiculously low price. They claim that they keep prices low by ordering in big quantities. The customer service here is also very good. They offer free returns and exchanges (just like other standard online marketplaces). All the orders are shipped directly from China and if you don’t get your order within 10 days, you get a $5 credit as well.

The reviews on this website, however, are not authentic. Customer images are a no-show. Even the written reviews seem shady and feel like been written using AI. Most of the products here are a hit, with few occasional misses. In this article, we will give you a heads-up on 11 items that are certainly not worth buying from TEMU!

1. Kitchen Sponges

TEMU Sponges-not worth it!

Source: Temu.com

Avoid buying kitchen sponges from TEMU. For example, a pack of 12 sponges for $1.67 is NOT GOOD QUALITY. Moreover, there is a condition that you have to buy at least 2 packs (24 sponges for $3.34).

Even the scotch brite sponges that you can get from Dollar Tree (2 sponges for $1.25) are better quality than these (but not the best). These sponges are way too soft and become mushy after a single use and become unbearably stinky and useless after 8-10 uses. 1 sponge from TEMU hardly lasts for 3 days.

The best place to buy these sponges is Amazon where you can buy a pack of 24 sponges for around $13, which will last you for about 6 months, which means that you spend $2.17 a month on kitchen sponges for a decent dish-washing experience.

2. Personal Blender

Taking a chance on TEMU for electronics can be hit or miss. While some items may be satisfactory, the personal blenders, in particular, fall short. They don't operate smoothly, often leaving chunks of fruit unblended in your smoothies, ultimately detracting from the overall experience.

Opting for personal blenders on platforms like Amazon, where you can find reliable options for around $20, might be a more prudent choice to ensure a smoother blending experience without compromising the quality of your smoothies.

3. Makeup

Getting makeup from TEMU is a bit of a gamble. Even though the packaging might give off high-end vibes (thanks to shared manufacturing spaces with other top brands), the quality is a whole different story. It's usually not a wise move to invest in TEMU makeup if you are after reliable and high-quality products.

It is interesting to note that TEMU sponsors numerous beauty influencers to endorse their makeup products claiming that it's just as good as the high-end brands. But when you look closely (on the influencer’s face), you can see it's not really the same quality.

Despite what they say, the makeup doesn't quite match up to the better-known brands. It's better to be cautious and not get swayed by the ads. Check things out for yourself before buying.

4. Makeup Brushes

I really enjoy getting makeup tools like beauty blenders, manicure kits, eyelash curlers, etc., from TEMU. However, I have to admit that makeup brushes are a letdown.

They don't blend well, and the bristles are terrible. They shed like crazy, almost like a cat. Sure, they're super cheap, and you can grab a 30-piece brush set for under $4, but dealing with all the loose hairs is just not worth the frustration!

5. Handbags

Steer clear of getting handbags from TEMU. Even though they look great in the website pictures, the real deal is a letdown. In-person, they're not as stylish, and the stitching is kind of lousy.

When you finally get them, it's more like a "meh" moment rather than excitement. And here's the kicker: they might just fall apart out of nowhere, like when you're out at a party or just taking a stroll, leaving you with a two-piece handbag situation.

6. Shoes, Especially Heels

TEMU's shoes, especially the heels, may seem stylish and fitting for events. However, a notable downside is their unreliability. Picture yourself in the midst of an event, and suddenly, the heels come apart or even worse, as shown in the image above, they EXPLODE!

Note that the heels and boots from Temu look very nice. They look very stylish and even sturdy. The heels may even pass the initial running test, but the problem is that you never know when they decide to betray you! Hence it is advisable to explore more dependable options for footwear to ensure a safe and worry-free experience.

When it comes to shoe shopping, forget about the "best" place, it's all about TIMING! During the Black Friday sales, you can snag ridiculously good deals from the original outlets of your favorite brands.

7. Clothes

Steering clear of TEMU is advisable when it comes to purchasing apparel as well. The clothes do not look anything like the pictures on the website. As the saying goes, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. The material used in the clothes tends to be scratchy, leading to discomfort and itching.

Not to mention, everything that comes from TEMU smells funny. The clothes in particular seem to be made from low-quality materials such as plastic or polyester. The overall appearance of the clothes is less than flattering, and it's particularly recommended to avoid items priced under $10. Be cautious, as sometimes what you order for yourself ends up being in sizes fit for toddlers or even dolls.

8. Toilet Cleaning Tablets

Thinking about trying out TEMU's toilet-cleaning tablets? Well, here's the lowdown: they might seem like a steal, but the truth is, they don't really get the job done. And hey, that's kind of what you'd expect at that price point, right?

But here's the kicker: they leave these weird blue spots in your toilet bowl, adding to the yellow stains you're trying to get rid of. Not cool! And if that's not enough, there's this strange blue residue they leave in the flush tank, and trust me, it's not going anywhere. Save your toilet the trouble and pass on TEMU's toilet cleaning tablets.

Walmart is a way better option to buy these kinds of tablets. They're reasonably priced ($1.28 for a pack of 2) and actually get the job done pretty well. You don't have to break the bank, and your toilet stays in top-notch shape. It's a win-win!

9. Air-Fryer Liners

There is no need to buy these air-fryer liners, especially from TEMU. For one, they don’t fit in most standard air-fryers that come in the USA. Secondly, they significantly add to the cooking time of the meat, thirdly, they may occasionally catch fire. And most importantly, they leave behind a bigger mess in the air-fryer, than the food alone (when fried without these liners).

Trust me, it's much easier to just wash your air-fryer every 2-3 days instead of putting your whole family’s life in danger!

10. Notebooks

If you are eyeing TEMU's notebooks, I'd say it's best to think twice. Sure, they might look appealing at first, but when it comes down to it, the page quality is just not up to par.

You'll find that whatever you jot down on one page mysteriously imprints itself onto the next 10 pages, which is kind of a bummer. Trust me, you're better off checking out your local stores for notebooks that won't let you down.

These TEMU notebooks are like the Dollar Tree versions – if you are cool with that, then maybe they will work for you. But if you are after something a bit better, I would suggest exploring other options.

11. Coloring Books

Buying coloring books from TEMU might seem enticing, given their attractive designs. However, unfortunately, they share the same page quality as their notebooks: terrible!

Despite their visually appealing designs, these coloring books are better suited for personal enjoyment rather than as thoughtful gifts. If you are considering purchasing them for yourself, they might serve their purpose, but for gifting, the overall quality falls short of making a lasting impression. It's worth exploring other options for a more satisfying and impressive gift-giving experience.

Conclusion

Creating a list of things not to buy from TEMU turned out to be quite a challenge. Honestly, it is so much fun to shop from there, feeling like a billionaire, just like their motto says. Most items are a win, but there are a few misses.

Despite that, considering the prices, it's worth giving a shot. However, the scotch brite sponges were a major letdown, and I'm still not over it. Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up about the few disappointments amidst the otherwise enjoyable TEMU hauls.
