Do you have that much free time to travel?🧳🫢

Travelling all the way to Malaysia just for cheaper goods is a waste of time.

Honestly I think that people who do this have too much free time. I personally wouldn’t and I don’t enjoy going to JB.

From my own personal experiences, I found Malasia to be rather unsafe, I have almost been robbed/mugged, I have been picked on by corrupt police officers, and the whole experience seems like more trouble than its worth.

My uncle used to go into Malaysia weekly to see his friends, and he'd tell me stories of whenever they’d see a Singaporean car plate, they’d harass him and say he’d broken all sorts of rules and if you refuse to pay their “kopi money” / bribe them - they’ll try to arrest you. (This is the Malaysian police).

I’ve only been to JB once in 2020 and I paid I cash, the cashier insisted that I didn’t pay enough and demanded for more money from me. (He was supposed to give me back at least 100MRY.)

I’ve never understood the appeal of traveling to Malaysia just for “cheap” food / purchases. My friends do it on a weekly basis but I simply can’t relate.

Honestly, I don’t want to queue up for hours or get stuck in a jam, being unable to move, all for the sake of having cheap food & goods.

My time is worth more than saving a few dollars here and there.

I even saw a news documentary on how people would travel all the way to JB just to buy medicine because it’s cheaper there. If I had more free time, I would do it. Maybe if I was younger & had all the time to do it, I would.

Now, time is the most important & valuable thing to me. I feel as I grow older, I treasure my time more and spending HOURS just to save a few dollars here & there doesn’t seem like a very good idea. At this point, I'd rather pay for the convenience.

Maybe I’m a cynical person who has had bad experiences, but spending hours stuck in a jam on the causeway / potentially getting robbed on the way doesn’t seem like a very good idea and a pleasant way to spend my time.

I would rather pay full price for things in Singapore, where it’s more convenient and easily accessible. These are just my adulting tips, money can be earned but you can’t buy time even if you had all the money in the world.
