Marriage Talk

My husband and I got married at 20 and 22. We know this is crazy to some people, and crazy young for a marriage. Trust me, it’s odd for us too lol.

We moved to Charlotte, NC right before our wedding in 2021 to get settled in so once we got back from our honeymoon, my husband could start in the police academy. 5 years of dating and 2 years of marriage later, here are a few things we’ve learned so far.

1. Prioritize Quality Time Together

He is currently working night shift, making it harder to schedule time together. Thankfully, I’m lucky enough to work from home. The short period of time he is awake in a day, we make sure to be together by having lunch and taking time together without our phones.

2. Communication on Everything

Communication really is key. Even when it’s hard or uncomfortable, your feelings need to be expressed.

3. Maintain the Friendship

Essentially, never stop dating. By doing this you keep the “honeymoon phase” alive. It makes your time together memorable and even years later it feels like you’ve just fallen in love.
