A few years back, the Bratz challenge saw makeup lovers across the country doing themselves up to look like the dolls.

It seems that this isn’t the only impact they’ve had on the beauty community, though, as Yasmin, Jade, Sasha, and the whole gang are inspiring a new lip trend.

‘Lip wings’ takes the overlined lip and supercharges it, so not only will your pout look bigger, it’ll also be shaped differently.

Certain celebrities (let’s be honest, Kylie Jenner) have popularised pillowy lips with a rounded cupid’s bow over the years gone by.

Rumours around fillers aside, Kylie launched lip kits and became a social media sensation with tutorials on how to line your lips to look bigger even if you weren’t naturally or surgically blessed.

Normally you’d draw around the outside of your natural lipline before filling in and covering with gloss or colour. Lip wings are fairly similar, but you’re going to focus more on the edges.

1) When lining your lips, purse them so you can get a tighter line. Always make sure you use a nice, sharp lipliner that doesn’t drag, too.

2) Do your bottom lip and cupid’s bow as normal, but when you get to the outer corners, create an upwards flick (not unlike you’d do with winged eyeliner).

3) Bring the bottom liner up so it meets the shape you’ve made on your top lip, then wear whatever you want on top.

4) This should, when your lips aren’t pursed, give you a lifted finish that looks like you’re pouting even when you’re not.

5) You do need to have a steady hand to get this perfect, as some commenters have claimed that they ended up looking more like The Joker than their favourite Bratz character.

6) If you’re struggling, use a clean, thin, slanted brush (like an eyebrow or gel liner brush) to apply the product. The less the better here.

As with any makeup trend, it won’t suit everyone. If you naturally have ‘resting b*** face’ and your lips turn downwards, it could be an overly dramatic change.

Doing your makeup in natural light should show you what it’ll look like to the outside world, as unfortunately we can’t take a filter and ring light everywhere.
