Amsterdam Itinerary 🇳🇱

I stayed in Amsterdam for a full four days and would say that I managed to do 90% of the touristy things and here’s what I’d recommend for first timers!

1. Rijksmuseum ⛲️

The biggest musuem in Amsterdam and it’s home to a handful of famous paintings by Dutch painters such as the “Nightwatch”, “Syndics of the Drapers Guild” by Rembrandt and “The Milkmaid”, “Woman Reading a Letter” by Vermeer. You’ll see a ton of other Dutch potteries, wartime artefacts e.t.c

2. Van Gogh Museum 🌻

Arguably the most famous Dutch painter and one of my favourite artists 🥹 Really a dream come true seeing “Sunflowers”, “Almond Blossoms”, “Vases with Irises”, and a lot of his other self portraits up close. This museum is opened by his nephew and it closely documents Van Gogh’s life, his letters to Theo (his brother) and how he developed his art style throughout the years.

Unfortunately, you absolutely cannot get tickets on the day itself because it’ll be sold out 😭 so try to get it ASAP!!

3. Zaanse Schans 🛶

An entire neighbourhood/village by the river with lots of windmill. Shows the Dutch life back in the 1800s with cheese and clog factories! Only 20-30minutes from Amsterdam but probably only go if the weather is good 👍 It could’ve been a day trip but I only spent a couple of hours here because of the weather.

4. Anne Frank House 🏠

This is one of the things you cannot skip out on if you’re here in Amsterdam. I’ve got goosebumps seeing the Anne Frank house in real life and seriously everybody comes here to see this. Tickets sell out on the day it’s released (on the website) so if you’re looking to visit, please be prepared to camp on the website for it 😭😭

5. Red Light District 🚥

It was such an eye opening experience for me and theres so much you can do for FREE 😭 (Or maybe spend €2 for the peep show). It will have your jaw hanging the entire time you’re here.

6. Walk along the Canals 🚶‍♀️

It’s an entire activity by itself and I can do this ALL day. Honestly, Amsterdam is so scenic and it’s IG-worthy everyday. My favourite photo spots are along Damrak and Jordaan!

7. Dam Square 🦦

OG Palace of Amsterdam and it’s worth the visit especially if you’re visiting the museum inside. Quite a touch and go activity and I didn’t really spent much time here but it’s near all the shopping streets.

8. Blomenmarkt 🌷

Flowers and more flowers! Amsterdam is known for their tulips and the ones here are so FRESH so I bought a bouquet for fun. Apparently the seeds are not good(?) and will not really sprout so I didn’t get any.

However, if you’re visiting during Tulips season/Spring then I’d probably skip this and head straight to Keukenhof!

9. Eat!! 🥞🍟

I tried all of the viral food places in Amsterdam and all I can say is that it’s viral for a good reason. I’d kill for Dutch poffertjes and wouldn’t miss out on Fabel Friet!
