Torrisi Bar & Restaurant is an upscale Italian restaurant opened by Major Food Group (the same group that opened Carbone!). I finally snagged a reservation here after weeks of checking, and was so excited to check it out as Carbone is one of the most famous restaurants in New York City.

MY EXPERIENCE:

Torrisi is located in Soho and features a bustling bar and two dining rooms. The space is definitely way bigger than Carbone, and feels more grand. Most people were dressed up, but not too fancy as we went for lunch and not dinner. The vibe did feel a bit pretentious though - the management was clearly nicer / favoring some tables, and our waitress kept telling us that what we ordered “was extremely little” and that “that won’t be enough for you”. When in fact, we were very full after (we went with a group of 5 girls).

THE MEAL:

We ordered a total of 2 appetizers, 4 mains, and 1 side for five people. The portions were pretty small - especially the tortellini pomodoro, so we decided to order 2 of that dish. We didn’t order dessert, but we got complimentary Italian ices. Here are all the dishes we ordered and my ratings of them:

Dressed Endives ($26): 8.5/10. This dish was simple, but refreshing. Did seem overpriced at $26.

Octopus Nha Trang ($32): 9/10. The octopus was SO crispy and juicy at the same time.

Tortellini Pomodoro ($29): 9.5/10. This is their most famous dish. It truly lived up to the hype - you have to order this!

Linguini in a Ping Manhattan Clam Sauce ($29): 7/10. This pasta was pretty bland. I would not recommend.

Skirt Steak with Balsamic Vinegar ($50): 8.5/10. The steak was cooked at a perfect medium rare and was very tender.

Scalloped Potatoes ($15): 7.5/10. These potatoes were pretty basic, nothing too special. They were a bit too salty for me.
