What is a Braxton hick contraction? 🤰🏻

To all my pregnant, expecting mommas reading this did you know that Braxton hicks contractions can begin any time after 20 weeks of pregnancy in the second trimester?🤰🏻

Braxton hicks contractions are sporadic contractions and relaxation of the uterine muscle. This is your body’s way of preparing for labor but they do not indicate that labor has begun.

This is a normal part of pregnancy. Some women find it uncomfortable and some don’t. It’s described as a feeling like a mild menstrual cramp or tightening of a specific area of the abdomen that comes and goes.

Can be triggered by being active, when the bladder is full, being sexually active or even being dehydrated.

Braxton hicks play a role in toning the uterine muscle in preparation for the birth process. This is present in ALL pregnancies but of course women may experience it differently.
