I'm tired of trendy pt.2: White sneakers

A few months ago I made the grownup decision to finally get ridor my dusty old Air Force 1s. They'd seen too much in my college years in Athens and whenever I put them on l felt like a college girl, no matter what I was wearing.

The hunt for new white sneakers was HARD. Our options seem limited to AF1 dupes, the New Balance 550s that are clogging my TikTok timeline, cloth millennial-esque platforms that just felt too safe, and of course the shoes I like to call “Bella Hadid 11’s”: The Adidas Sambas.

Almost every casual White shoe l found was too young, too old, or too trendy. I eventually settled with Reebok Club C extras, but they were too white in color when I expected cream, too easily mistakable for Air Force 1s, and always made me break my ankle. When I forgot them in a Savannah hotel last month and didn't really care I knew it was time for a new style.

That's when I found Gola; a UK based company that originally made sneakers for court sports in the 60's and 70's.

Gola's women's and men's styles are classic, well-made, and come in unique colorways I've yet to see from other brands. A recent collab with Anthropologie hints that their popularity is on the rise, but I’ve yet to see anyone in them.

I bought my first pair yesterday and am officially obsessed. If you're looking for go-to sneakers that won't have you matching with every girl and guy at the bar next weekend, go for Gola.
