hello loves!

I wanted to give a TW as some people may feel uncomfortable with the concept of an IUD or other details, so please read at your own risk, also this is not medical advice as I'm not a doctor, this is just my story!😓

This experience is something I've wanted to share with other ladies who might be looking into another form of birth control.

When talking to one of my very close friends one day, we brushed the subject of IUDs because she had had one for years and although she said it was an uncomfortable procedure, she was VERY happy with her results and encouraged me to look into getting one. I want to start off by saying I did a LOT of research and weighed the pros and cons and came to the decision that it was right for me and my partner.

I was on birth control previously, and I'm very forgetful and didn't want an unexpected surprise (no offense to any young moms as my mom was young when she had me)🤰🏼The fear and anxiety of getting pregnant before I was ready was a pressure on my relationship. I also experienced EXTREME!!!!! PMS, cramps, throwing up, all kinds of awful things, and it made my life unbearable. The IUD was one of the solutions I saw worked for other women with similar issues.

I also would like to point out possibly one of the biggest reasons I had such a great experience is because I went to the best doctor in my city and he did the procedure in about 1 minute flat and he also did my pap smear all in one go. I was very grateful to have such an experienced doctor with great bedside manners that made me feel comfortable. I'd also like to note that to me personally, it did not bother me that my gynecologist is a man. I know some people may feel very strongly about that, but this doctor cares about his patients and all the ladies and nurses that work in his office told me he'd delivered all their children as he is also an OBGYN.

The question I get asked by all my friends is: Did it hurt? I'd have to say that it was a 5/10 it was like a very hard pinch, and it was over. The worst part was cramping afterward! I also had to have an ultrasound performed to be sure it was placed correctly, which made me very relieved. My partner was at work, so I drove myself home with no issues, just cramps, and I took some Advil and felt fine after 😊

This story takes place a year ago, my partner and I have peace of mind, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Although my period is a little irregular, it doesn't bother me, and I'm happy with the results. Skyla is the brand I have, and it's good for 3 years.

Some tips I'd like to give to anyone looking into getting an IUD is to bring a cup of cold ice water to drink (I was sweating a lot because I was nervous see first pic 😨) and also either an ice pack or a warm pack depending on what you have a preference for to help with the cramping, and some medicine for afterwards as well. If you're really nervous, have someone go with you! It's always a good idea to talk to your doctor if you want to look into it.

This is just my personal experience, and every woman is different so although it worked for me it may not work for you! Thanks for reading, and lmk if you have any questions!!! 💗💗
