Ok, so recently my hair Has NOT been hairing. Not to brag or anything (maybe a little) but I’ve always had pretty thick, easy to style healthy looking hair. Hmmm but lately it’s been limp, flat, difficult and kinda greasy.

I thought maybe my hair just needed a good haircut so I went got a nice little shape up and somehow it seemed to look worse 😭 that’s when I knew I had to do a little research.(aka spend days obsessing in the internet about it) a lot of what I found was hair care routines based on your hair porosity level. (Essentially How well your hair reacts to water) Initially I hard eye rolled at this idea until I really started getting into the science of it and it actually started to make sense. Let me tell you I did the little porosity test and bought a few of the products recommended and I honestly could not believe how full of volume and healthy and better my hair felt after just using the correct products twice. So now I’m screaming to the rooftops FIGURE OUT YOUR HAIR POROSITY LEVEL it’s such a game changer.

The Test:

Honestly the easiest test ever. Get a clear glass fill it with water. Grab some hair strands from your hair brush and literally just drop it in the cup (don’t push it in the water let it lay on top the water. Wait about 5 minutes and see where that hair lays in the water.) if it’s all the way at the bottom it’s high porosity in the middle? Medium porosity still at the top? Low porosity)

High porosity:

hair that absorbs water quickly but doesn't retain it well. This is because the hair's cuticle layer is raised or damaged, creating gaps or "pores" in the hair's surface.

Here are some characteristics of high porosity hair:

-Dry and brittle: High porosity hair often feels dry and brittle, and is prone to breakage.

- high porosity hair is often frizzy.

-Air dries quickly: High porosity hair air dries quickly.

-Absorbs water quickly: High porosity hair absorbs water and other moisturizing products quickly

Medium porosity:

Medium porosity hair has a looser cuticle structure that allows moisture to easily penetrate and be retained. This makes it easier to style and maintain, and hair with medium porosity often looks healthy, shiny, and glossy.

are some characteristics of medium porosity hair:

- Easy to style: Hair with medium porosity is easy to style and holds styles well.

- Retains moisture: Medium porosity hair can retain moisture for a longer period of time.

- Takes color well: Hair with medium porosity takes color well.

- air drys quick

Low porosity:

Low porosity hair is hair that has a tight cuticle structure that makes it difficult for water and hair products to be absorbed:

Signs

Hair with low porosity may:

- Take a long time to wet and dry

- Have hair products that sit on top of the hair

- float in room temp water

- doesn’t absorb water well

So decide on which type you have, I will post a few quick hair product suggestions for each but also make a separate post for each type ❤️
