Peony Stages 🌸

I've been growing peonies for two years now and I've learned so much about caring for and harvesting these flowers. Let's chat about the different stages of peony blossoms!

1. Stage 1 - tight, solid bud. This is best left on the plant and allowed to open up more. If you see a lot of ants at this stage, do not worry! They wash away easily once the flower is soaked in water.

2. Stage 2 - not quite there yet! At this stage, you can definitely see the petals poking out, but you have to leave it for a bit longer until it gets squishier.

3. Stage 3 - the marshmallow stage! This is the PERFECT stage to harvest your peonies. These will keep in the fridge for weeks if you're not ready to put them out in a vase just yet, and once they're out on the counter in a vase, they should open in about 2 days.

4. Stage 4 - Another beautiful stage to harvest peonies in, and this stage is the easiest to soak the ants out in my opinion.

5. Stage 5 - full bloom! Even if you wait until these flowers are all the way open like this, you should still get 5-7 days on the counter in a vase.
