Let’s talk about PUPPY BLUES

PUPPY BLUES 🐶🐾 😥 Something I didn’t experience with my first dog, but have with my second! Both I got as puppies. Puppy blues are the periods of sadness that can happen during the adjustment period of a new puppy.

Puppies are HARD! Some harder than others. Things do get better. You may love your puppy, but not like them yet, and that’s okay. I’ve caught myself thinking - what have I done?!! I try not to compare my current puppy to my older dog as much as possible.

TIPS:

1. Embrace imperfection. Your puppy will not be perfectly potty trained overnight. Maybe not even for the first year! Stay consistent. Remember - they are babies! They don’t have full control of their bladders yet.

2. Learn from your mistakes, and prevent bad behavior as much as possible. Do NOT leave anything out that is valuable or you wouldn’t want your puppy to ruin. Crate train, add baby gates or place your puppy in a pen when you can’t keep an eye on them.

3. Focus on basic command training and impulse control. This will help a ton!

4. Take time to yourself when needed. Maybe you need to drop your pup off at doggy daycare, or put them in a crate and take a walk on your own.
