oratane (also known as accutane) is a type of medication that helps with controlling acne and known to be one of the better forms of acne treatment 🫡
HOWEVER it does come with a hefty price tag… so today, i’ll be breaking down everything that’s great and not-so-great about taking oratane so that you can decide whether oratane may be a good course of treatment for your skin struggles! 😚
💰PRICE: ~$150-250 per 30 tablets
- i couldn’t remember how much i paid, but the price above is a rough gauge from online sources
- you take one tablet everyday, though the price varies according to your dosage (i take 20mg per day!)
- essentially you’re spending $200 on average for a month’s supply, and your course can stretch up to 1.5 years depending on how often you take oratane and how your body reacts to it 💸
🥴 SIDE EFFECTS
- cholesterol and blood pressure may rise, hence the dermatologists will make sure to run a blood test prior to prescribing oratane to ensure that your body is compatible with oratane
- mood swings - but this one depends on the individual as i personally have not experienced too much of an effect on my mood
- DRYNESS. the whole point of oratane is to dry out your body so that you stop producing so much oil that leads to acne - so you may experience dryness of the skin and lips, but your dermatologist should also prescribe specific moisturisers and lip balms to help with the dryness
🤓 RESULTS
- i’d say it’s super effective! if you take a look at the second frame, my skin cleared dramatically in 2 months
- i initially took oratane to treat my body acne, and within a few months i stopped developing pimples on my back and chest!
- i haven’t had an angry pimple in AGES, but i do get one or two tiny ones here and there during my time of the month
🧐 MY VERDICT
- extra effective
- but also extra expensive
- you can’t just stop taking oratane once you feel like your skin is cleared up - you have to finish the entire course prescribed by your dermatologist and that can cost a huge amount
- the dryness is… annoying at times… but all for the greater good ig 🥲
