It was finally the day we are going for our gynae appointment to confirm our pregnancy! 🥹

The 3 weeks wait wasn’t easy, I started experiencing more pregnancy symptoms. I started to bloat, I had to suck in my belly so as not to create unnecessary suspicions while at work. I was more hungry, around 11am and 4pm. I experienced my first morning sickness close to week 6 when I was commuting to work on the public transport, also the day I had a high fever of 38.5 later in the day. It was so bad that I had to apply essential oil and sneak in sour plum, both helped but only temporarily. I ended up vomiting gastric juice the moment I went to the nearest toilet at my workplace. Fatigue and the lack of motivation to do ANYTHING, I just want to stay in bed all day long if I could 🥲

Back to our 1st gynae session, our gynae asked lots of questions in the beginning. Whether we had pets, any health condition from both sides of family etc before proceeding to the ultrasound scan. We managed to hear the heartbeat and see the baby on screen as well, though it wasn’t very clear as my bladder wasn’t full when I went for the consultation because I went to the washroom prior 😅

After the scan, our gynae explained more to us on Down syndrome testing, there was 1) Oscar, 2) NT + NIPT, 3) Chorinic Vilus Sampling and 4) Amniocentesis. For procedure 3 and 4, it wasn’t in our consideration as it carries a risk of causing miscarriage, 1% and 0.5% respectively. Prior to pregnancy I was sure I wanted to do NIPT if I were to get pregnant, as it is more accurate, with 99% accuracy compared to Oscar 90%, and I’d love to know the gender of the baby! But after discussion with the husband, we decided to go with Oskar due to the high cost for NIPT. One of the considerations was that both my husband and my family had no history of health conditions/hereditary disease.

After the consultation, I had to do a urine test to test for glucose and protein. Followed by blood test to test for HIV, Hepatitis, Total Vitamins D and Blood group. And we could leave once we were done!

💰 cost of 1st consultation: $513.35 (refer to 2nd slide for cost breakdown)
