SEOUL 🇰🇷 Best Ginseng Chicken Soup

Nothing beats a piping hot bowl of ginseng chicken soup on a cold day! ❄️🥶 If you’ve been to the Gyeongbokgung Palace area in Seoul, you’ll be very familiar with this eatery! Tosokchon Samgyetang is hands down the best place to go for a hearty bowl of ginseng chicken, as well as their seafood pancakes.

It’s super popular among both tourists and locals, so expect to see snaking long queues when you’re there! However, the queues cleared up pretty quickly – we were there on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm, joined the back of a really long queue, and we were seated within 15 minutes. Just enough time for me to go and grab a coffee and head back to the restaurant 😂

The restaurant is situated in a hanok building and has a few different dining rooms within the premises! Some rooms require you to take off your shoes before entering, and you’ll be sitting on the floor cushions to have your meals (very authentic experience).

We ordered the Tosokchon Ogolgye Samgyetang (Ginseng Black Chicken Soup, 25,000W), the Tosokchon Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken Soup, 19,000W), and the Haemul Pajeon (Seafood & Green Onion Pancake, 16,000W). The meal came with complimentary banchan (side dishes) and a small shot cup of ginseng liquor! You can choose to drink it as is with your food, or pour it into the Samgyetang soup. My friends and I poured one shot into each bowl – it was pretty good!

My favourite would have to be the seafood pancake though (best one I’ve had so far!) as well as the regular samgyetang. It was such a warming meal especially on a cold rainy day! I’m definitely coming back for more on my next trip 🤓
