How my besties and I remain close after 10 years 👯‍♀️

My besties have been in my life for over 10 years now, and throughout the course of the decade I’ve learnt a thing or two about friendships, and the intentional efforts needed to keep them going. Here’s how my best friends and I have stayed close for more than a decade 🥰.

𝟭. 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿

This goes beyond physically showing up - no message in our group chat is left unreplied, and we wouldn’t hesitate to drop everything to be with each other if needed. Case in point: my friends showed up at my door after a particularly difficult breakup and stayed the night to make sure I wasn’t alone 🥺♥️. They played a huge part in my healing journey and I wouldn’t have made it through without them.

𝟮. 𝗪𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

It’s impossible for friends to be agreeable to each other all the time, and something that’s really made our friendship stronger is trashing it out with each other. Whether we’ve disapproved on someone’s choice of a partner or something the other party did, navigating disagreements always require conversations that are hard to bring up, often with much tears. But by being 100% honest with each other we take the friendship to a higher level. I know I can fully trust what my friends say because of how transparent we are with each other.

𝟯. 𝗪𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿

We make an effort to celebrate each other’s milestones - birthdays, graduation, securing a job, the list goes on. They’re one of the first people I’d share any news with - good or bad.

My besties make me feel heard and seen even when I feel like no one cares about what I have to say. And likewise I’d do the same for them. Lots of what I know about love I’ve learnt from my pals, and I truly hope everyone gets to be part of a friendship where everyone simply wants the best for each other ❤️🫡.
