Cover image? Shot on iPhone (sorry, had to crack that joke, but itโs true though๐คญ)
Saw the suggested prompt for #WhatsinyourPhone and thought it was also time for me to post an update about my transition from android to iPhone ! Iโve been using iPhone for the past couple of months and itโs been super smooth sailing, I donโt own any other apple products so Iโm not really a part of the apple ecosystem, so the only thing I can vouch for now is that the phone is quite solid.
Iโm using iPhone 13 for reference!
Anyways, on to the transition! Split into:
1. Things you would want to note
2. The transition process
๐ฑ
1. 5 Things to Note๐
depending on the model you get, the size may be smaller!
I donโt have a photo of my previous android, but it was much larger than my iPhone 13, for sure. A few of my friends hesitated on making the transition because of the size, especially for the regular series! In the end they decided to go with iPhone max or promax just so that it would match their previous phone size better.
๐
- you will need to get used to new keyboard, photo functions, and new settings!
Pretty much expected change! Donโt worry, youโll get the hang of it fast. I did take some time to adjust not having a โhome, back, and tabโ button, but picked up the iPhone equivalent of these three soon enough.
๐
- for those who play emulator games, itโs tougher on iPhone.
When I had my android I would install emulators to play Pokรฉmon games! But I heard for iPhone itโs harder. However, when researching for this post, I found out that just 23 hours ago, (super fresh from the oven news lmao), the first emulator app for iPhone dropped! However I donโt see it in my App Store yet.
๐
- iPhone wonโt be as customisable as android!
You can still customise your iPhone set up, but itโs not as easy as android devices, where youโve a whole array of icons and designs and even animations to choose from! So in that sense, iPhone would be slightly limited in terms of how much you can customise.
I was a bit sad when I had to say bye to all my cute cute backgrounds and app icons, but I realised that running my iPhone on its default set up sans the wallpaper (which is my own photo), is much more easier for me to navigate my new phone.
๐
- Face ID
For those that may not be comfortable with sharing biometric data, itโs a little hard to escape that with iPhone. Older models required fingerprint, whilst new models now all use Face ID to identify you. Youโll need this when unlocking your phone and using quite a lot of apps.
However, not too big of an issue, as you can disable it completely and go about using your iPhone with a passcode.

2. 3 Transition Tips
- Set up enough time and strong wifi to complete the transfer
You will need to set up your Apple ID first, usually you can just do this in store. (I had the staff at myhalo help me with this!) Then, they will ask you to download an app called Move to iOS.
Both phones need to be next to each other with strong wifi to complete the transfer! Else itโs gonna take you hours. Depending on how much data you wanna transfer over, it will also affect overall time taken. I had about 6000 photos and videos and I transferred my contacts and apps, in total it took me 2 hours using 5G wifi๐
I know most people will have more than 6k photos and videos so keep that in mind - you may want to spring clean your android before starting the transfer process.
๐
- Apple Pay and Wallet
Scan your cards individually to register them to your Apple wallet! Then whenever you want to pay, double click the on off button and unlock your phone either with Face ID or passcode.
This part is pretty straightforward.
Fun fact: you can even add your flight itineraries and certain tickets to your Apple wallet! I was able to add my scoot itineraries to my wallet, allowing me seamless transition to board my flight! (Just double click, scan Face ID, show itinerary and passport, then bye!)
๐
- apps
You will need to set up all your apps again! SingPass was the most tedious for me haha cuz I had some password issues, but thankfully got them resolved.
Also, you can decide if you want Apple to help you remember passwords, similar to Google accounts.
And yep, you can go get chrome and set up Google accounts too if thatโs more comfortable and familiar for you. Thatโs what I did as I didnโt really prefer safari.
๐๐ฑ๐
these are the 8 main things I took note of when I made the switch! Hopefully this post can help someone whoโs considering transitioning to iPhone.โบ๏ธ at the end of the day, as long as you find the phone useful and helpful, thatโs what matters most.

PS: trade in old electronics (phone and laptop) at MyHalo to get some discounts for your new device from them. You can get $30 off!
Iโve bought from them twice and love how they handle all the second hand tech - my current iPhone was sold to them at 98% battery health and itโs been working great so far.
As always, feel free to ask if youโve any questions about Apple, iPhone 13, or MyHalo.
