My husband and i have been trying to spend more mindfully✨ now as we are facing life changes with a change in our marital status, address, and more!

If you’re starting on your journey too, here are some of my tips that i keep to too!!

1️⃣ Create a Budget Tracker

I know this sounds so basic, but it is SO IMPORTANT to sit down, look at how much you are spending regularly, and see where you want or can cut down on sustainably!! You can start with smaller savings and move on from there. If you’re someone who loves shopping with a passion, maybe you can also set aside a small budget every month for that. If you want bigger items exceeding the budget, then save up for a few months on this fixed budget to get it!!!

These goals should always be attainable, sustainable, and make you feel happier regardless. Alot of us tend to forget these habits should be sustainable, and start out so big but end up breaking the cycle by spending all the money saved once you burn out. 🥴

2️⃣ Add things into your cart 🛒

If i want to buy something that could be meaningless or less urgent, or if i’m just not sure it’s a want or need, i add it to cart. ‼️AND THEN I LEAVE IT THERE‼️

If i still consistently think about it over the next month or so, i will cart it out when i have the budget to do so. Otherwise, i usually delete it off the cart, or look for better options of the item i might have wanted that will be more sustainable and at a better price point.

E.g. i really wanted to buy a 🎄 for my house, and was going to buy it from Taobao but felt like it just wasn’t going to be quality assured etc. hesitated so long, ended up looking to get it on Carousell for cheaper and more environmentally friendly options instead, and got it at a lower price when i had budget for it!! 😬

3️⃣ Have a savings account that is away from access!!

I signed up for a Singlife bank account when i was just getting out of poly as a recommendation from my friend, and the savings in there gathers interest every month!!

Seeing my money increase (no matter how much), always makes me feel so motivated to put more money in there!!

The fact that they no longer have a card also makes it harder to withdraw money, so i spend less on it, and i save more by forgetting about it most of the times 😂😂😂 (times like these, my 🐠 memory is so useful)

4️⃣ Have long-term savings goals!

This helps guide your short-term goals, and also keep you motivated towards fulfilling your budget!

Follow through with your budget trackers and it all goes to something bigger - that’s super important overall as it will be like a guiding star when you lose track of the reason why you put yourself through this!!

Spending less = more savings!! 💪🏻

5️⃣ Hold yourself accountable!!

Be it through an excel summary sheet, or even sharing these goals with your friends or financial planners, keep yourself accountable to the goals!!

Sometimes we all need someone to remind us of the goals we are trying to attain, or why we are doing this again.

I recently came across a few tiktok accounts that are actively trying to get out of debt and holding themselves accountable by posting their weekly progress, which seems like such a fantastic idea to keep yourself motivated and on track!!

Of course, if you’re not comfortable, you can do it anonymously, or, just skip all of that and track the big goals on your own!!

This is different from monthly budgeting!!

E.g. goal: save $10,000 by end of 2025

Jan: $500/$10,000

Feb: $800/10,000

So on and so forth!!

These helps you not only see your progress in all the baby steps, but also, remind you of your own financial goal you’re trying to attain!!!

🐥🐣🐥🐣

I know there’s alot of noise online telling you how to spend and save, but honestly, the best method is the one that works for you!!

Remember that the plan serves you and your goals, so it should be something you KNOW you can do, not just some unrealistic goals that end up making you feel like a failure and nothing more. ❌

Give yourself credit where they’re due, and reward yourself occasionally with a GOOD quality item that is better for your mind, environment, and wallet!!

With that, let’s all work towards getting dat bag (of cash, not the bag)💰💰💰
