Wether you’re shooting with a camera or a phone, here are some tips to photograph your food like a pro! Coming from someone who’s job is in food photography, so let’s get started!
☀️ Lighting is Everything
Honestly the lighting situation can make or break your photo. Aim for natural window light, even better if it’s an overcast day! Don’t be afraid to modify the lighting situation. Yes, I love natural window light but know if you’re looking for something more moody, warm, cool, etc to keep your photos unique to you.
📸 Depth Of Field
Do you want everything in your image to be super sharp? Or do you want one thing in focus and the rest blurry, or a little in-between! This is called your “Depth of Field”. You can achieve this by changing the aperture or f-stop on your camera. Or by deciding if you want your photo in Portrait mode on your iPhone! (Let me know if you want a more detailed guide on this!)
🍩 Give it Context
A quick pic at the dinner table versus a highly planned studio photoshoot give off two completely different vibes. Figure out if you want the food to be the center of focus without any distractions. Or bring in some props and people to add some context!
I wish I could fit all my tips into one post, comment below what you think and I’ll make a few more food photography guides! Happy Photo-shooting 😋
