For just $130 The most underrated destination?!😱

Recently, scoot had a sale and I decided to book a flight to Yogyakarta since the flight was affordable at $130 and this was the best decision I’ve made this year🥹 I tried searching on Lemon8 for some reccomend actions but the was only one other post I think🥲 So here’s my own take on this wonderful city!

Yogyakarta, also known as Yogya/ Jogja to locals is one of the richest in culture, history and home to the nicest people💖.

1️⃣The top attractions include Borobudur Temple (I’m sure most people have seen it but do not know the name haha same for me🫠). This Buddhist temple is the largest in the world😱, a UNESCO site and one of the seven wonders of the world🌟 Prior to May 2023, they closed off tickets for people to walk to the top of the temple. In addition, if you want to climb to the top of the temple, they require you to make a reservation in advance (Luckily the driver I hired made one for us😭) so i would recommend either hiring a driver or booking a tour on klook. If you are looking forward to watching the sunrise on Borobudur, sorry to burst your bubble, but they have discontinued sunrise tickets since COVID-19 started😭😭. But this amazing temple,views, history and tour guide made the $45 ticket worth it🤧

2️⃣Other destinations include Prambanan Temple (Hindu Temple) which was abit too pricy for me $30ish😭, hence we went to the alternative Plaosan temple which was such a good decision🤩. With the same history, culture and architecture as Prambanan Temple (just the lack in size), Plaosan temple had 0 tourist crowds and was just so nice to walk around leisurely and admiring each rock and statue at our own pace instead of being squished and pushed around.

3️⃣Taman Sari, also known as the water palace. This place is SOOO instagramable and aesthetic. What you see is exactly what you get- it might look old but once you get there, it will just grow on you! Every single corrosion, mould and even the algae in the water gives Taman Sari the rustic look it is known for✨

4️⃣I would have never expected this but Yogyakarta in THE PLACE you need to go for cafe hopping!! Cafe drinks cost an estimated $2-5 and food cost maximum $10🎉. The affordable price point doesn’t mean there is a lack in the quality and aesthetic of the cafe. Every single cafe is vastly different from each other with some prioritising views to architecture of the building.

Last but not least,

5️⃣ALL THE FOOD THERE!!

Can you believe the whole tray of crabs (~5 crabs inside) only cost me $18😱😱 the crab also tasted very fresh with its firm meat and their butter sauce was delicious🤩 the local food there eg. Chicken satay was a whole different ball game from Singapore, with chicken so tender it melts in your mouth to the Skin of the chicken being so crispy on the same stick😭 (bring me back fr)

Anyways, this is just the tip of the iceberg for this amazing place and I hope more people will visit this hidden gem Jogja🥹💖
