a mini achievement that i wanted to share - i finally managed to gym alone after heading there for a month!!! 🥳 there is a pretty huge step for me because usually i go with my partner, but since i got familiar & after numerous sessions at GoFit Toa Payoh , i decided to attempt a session by myself 🤭 and so i wanna help those girlies who are afraid of gymming alone - here are 5 tips that's from me, a fellow gym beginner 😅

1️⃣ dress comfortably

🏋🏻‍♀️ what you choose to wear to gym sessions can empower you, contribute to your confidence level & raise your self-esteem

🏋🏻‍♀️ it also affects your workout performance & the good quality compression wear helps protect your muscles from inflammation & injuries

🏋🏻‍♀️ there are days where i love wearing sports bra, while there are also days where i wear long sleeves or have a shirt to cover up - so dressing comfortably is important to set your mind before going to the gym alone 👍🏻

2️⃣ set up a spotify playlist

🏋🏻‍♀️ music creates distraction: when you workout to music, you don't focus on your surroundings anymore

🏋🏻‍♀️ it also determines the speed of your workout: the rhythm kinda stimulates the brain & the synchronisation of the beat and the exercise can help expend energy in a more stable & efficient way

🏋🏻‍♀️ i love listening to k-hiphop music so i have a playlist for me to rely on during my solo gym session - ngl it helps tons when i'm drown in the beat & vibes heh 💯

3️⃣ map out your workout plan

🏋🏻‍♀️ preparation always helps to remove unnecessary uncertainty & anxiety, especially for gym beginners

🏋🏻‍♀️ i always craft a rough workout plan before i step in & if the machine is being used, i'd switch up to other exercises within the same plan or use the treadmill to do inclined walking

4️⃣ research & read up before you go

🏋🏻‍♀️ google the exercises that you want to attempt, search up on the machines that you want to use, watch videos that show you the proper form for any lift you want to do

🏋🏻‍♀️ if the machine works a little differently from what you see in the videos, read the instructions placed on the machine or observe how others do it before attempting

🏋🏻‍♀️ okay bad habit but i really have anxiety when it comes to asking people for help 🫠 so i tend to prepare myself by reading up on the machine before going to the gym!! nowadays it's getting easier because i've already settled into the gym ☺️

5️⃣ it's all in your head

🏋🏻‍♀️ DON'T HESITATE TO TAKE UP SPACE - you have the same rights as everyone else in the gym

🏋🏻‍♀️ it's easy to feel like everyone is judging you at the gym but the truth is, they are all busy checking out themselves 👀 especially for girls, those bulky man are just checking out themselves in the mirror, so you should be confident & check yourself out in the mirror too 🤭

🏋🏻‍♀️ ngl some days it's hard, it kinda took me a while to see myself in the mirror without thinking that people are judging me. but trust me, it really gets better with time!!

so if you're sitting on whether you can conquer the gym alone, let me tell you - YES YOU CAN!!! 💪🏻 it's time to step out of that invisible fear & anxiety, and go smash those PRs ✨
