this place is highly recommended by locals! 🇰🇷🏯🎎

if you're in south korea, one of the things you must experience is definitely renting hanboks!!! 🎎 my fiancé decided to surprise me by booking our hanbok experience in advance!! when i asked him why he decided to do so, he mentioned that this is one of the best hanbok rental place in terms of quality + one that allows for advance booking + a surprise (which is story for another day 🤭)

and because we don't really find information about how to prepare/dress if you're renting hanbok, this post will also be what we have learnt from our experience!! 👇🏻

1️⃣ THE STUDIO WE CHOSE

📍 Studio KJD

• bukchon-ro 5ga-gil, jongno-gu, seoul, south korea, 03053

• located in bukchon hanok village

• nearest subway: anguk station

• ₩45,000 for 4 hours of rental (inclusive of hanbok rental, hair styling, accessories/shoes)

• ₩55,000 for palace night walk (inclusive of a lantern, hanbok rental, hair styling - no time limit, just return the hanbok by 9pm)

• ₩280,000 for a couple photoshoot of 1 hour - inclusive of all raw photos & 10 edited photos

2️⃣ THE EXPERIENCE

the studio is a pretty small space, more like they rented a house to do this?? but i'm amazed by the number of things & options they have 😱 and 1 thing that i value the most is the authenticity of these hanboks - there wasn't a single modern hanbok which i appreciate because i strongly believe that the experience is only complete if everything is traditional and encapsulates the true hanbok vibes!!

once we reached the place, we were the first ones since we reserved for 9am slot & there wasn't a need to wait. the lady boss told us to pick our preferred colours & outfit style. initially i picked something more pink, but she made slight changes to mine to accommodate for my height 👍🏻 she then helped me to get dressed - which includes a lot of layers + corset that keeps my chest area super tight 👀 but yes this is the true experience because i watched kdrama & that's how they did it 😂

they also provide hair & makeup services!! i got to choose between 2 hairstyles that suit my hair length & my outfit, and the lady boss helped me with it 💯 she was really skillful & even took photos for me to check when she's done 🥹 i skipped the makeup since i already had mine done. subsequently, i went to pick a pouch & norigae (decorative pendant) of my choice to carry around. the best part about this is i EVEN GOT SOCK & SHOES to change into 🤩 that's why i really love & highly recommend this studio for the FULL EXPERIENCE 😘 and for the price that we're paying, it's definitely VALUE FOR MONEY AS WELL!!!

3️⃣ TIPS & HOW TO PREPARE

• rent your hanbok as early as 9am!! because as the day progress, the selection of hanboks lessens as they are rented out 🥲

• bring your passport along!! typically most places would require you to leave your passport and/or a cash deposit - so make sure you don't lose anything or stain anything 🌚

• for girlies - wear a strapless bra!! i know we all love padded tops but it's better to wear a strapless bra since you'll needa change out 👀

• generally wear something light so that you can wear it underneath for hygiene purposes - i had my tights/heattech on!!

• make sure to wear comfortable shoes if you are not renting from the studio we visited because most studios don't provide shoes like ours!!

• plan your visit to the palace from wednesday-sunday because only 4/5 palaces are open on monday + the gyeongbukgung palace is closed on tuesday 🥲

• and if you didn't already know!! your admission to gyeongbukgung palace is FREE if you're wearing a hanbok 🤩

if you're making your reservation with studio KJD, you can either do so via IG DM or naver!! definitely recommended for those who wants a full authentic experience 👍🏻 but if you're looking for more modern styled hanboks, you can opt for other packages on klook ☺️
