Wei Min The Famous Wanton Noodle 為民馳名雲吞麵

为民驰名云吞面 The Famous Wanton Noodle is a food stall that specialises in its wanton noodle offerings; the stall actually does have two signature dishes being offered on its menu however — one being the Char Siew Wanton Noodles, while the other would be the Curry Fried Chicken Cutlet Hor Fun. Apart from the two above-mentioned noodle dishes, 为民驰名云吞面 The Famous Wanton Noodle also serves up Dumpling Noodles / Hor Fun; those looking for items that can be shared across the table can go for the various side dishes which includes dishes like fried wanton, curry fishball, and seasonal vegetables — just to name a few.

It is noted that there is a bit of waiting time involved with the dish; the fried chicken is not only fried fresh upon order at least based on our experience with whilst dining there, the stall also seem to be particularly popular on delivery platforms with each order received comprising of multiple bowls. It took around 10 minutes for our order to be served — 为民驰名云吞面 The Famous Wanton Noodle does not describe on the elements that goes into their Curry Fried Chicken Cutlet Hor Fun but one can certainly observe other items like stalks of greens, one beancurd puff and one chunk of potato that comes with the fried chicken, rice noodles and curry gravy — the portion size being very generous at $5.50.

First sip of the curry gravy and we were already in love with what they have to offer; the curry gravy here is thick and creamy, but does not feel too heavy on the coconut milk at the same time — the notes of curry being pretty evident and all bright and tangy, whilst coming with a spicy kick they would do well for those who are able to withstand moderate levels of spiciness. Considering so, we found that there was rely no need for any sambal chili added for the dish; something which was also not provided to us. The rice noodles are also smooth and slurpy; done just about right so that it does not feel mushy nor clumpy. The crispy fried chicken certainly delivered on what was promised; the golden brown, crispy fried batter can be said as a little thick, though that helps the fried chicken maintain its crispness after having absorbed the curry gravy. The chicken does come well-marinated and is tender and juicy; hits quite the sweet spot for us — meanwhile the chunk of potato provided was soft to bite, and the beancurd puff absorbed the flavours of the curry gravy much like a sponge. The stalks of greens helped to give the dish a good balance with a soft crunch. Whilst we have yet to give their Char Siew Wanton Noodles a go, we do find their Curry Fried Chicken Cutlet Hor Fun undeniably shiok — probably also the reason why they do seem to be particularly popular on food delivery platforms; guess the residents around Alexandra Village have already figured out about this hidden gem way before we did.

At $5.50, it sure gives a lot of bang for the buck; also something that we would most certainly have at Alexandra Village Food Centre for sure!
