NYC: BEACH DAY TRIP

Did you know there is a beach that can be reached from NYC in approximately one hour? It’s hip. It’s cool. It’s surfer-friendly. It’s Rockaway Beach!

The beaches that people typically associate with NYC are in the Hamptons and Montauk, which require planning ahead for transportation, accommodations, and spending extra money.

Rockaway Beach is laid-back and requires very little planning ahead and minimal spending. You can get there via car, ferry, or subway. You can pack a cooler or purchase food and beverage from the boardwalk. All you need is a swimsuit, sunscreen, and a towel!

My preferred areas to spread out on the sand are near RIPPERS (90th St), Rockaway Beach Club (97th St), or Sandpiper Playground (105th St).

No trip is complete without a stop at Connolly's Bar for a frozen piña colada! To keep the beach party going, head to Tacoway Beach for more fun drinks (the tacos are just ok).

I have come here every summer to celebrate birthdays, cool off during a heatwave, make the most of a holiday weekend with no vacation, and just for fun.
