This semester i really asked for it sia cause i decided it was a good idea to take both Malay AND Spanish language classes alongside all my other school work PLUS my 3 jobs 😢🤡 which you can read all about over here: Jet Trys: Juggling 3 jobs + School (its so hard 😭)

Last week i got a reality check as i had to take my first ever Malay exam, and here are my takeways :

The test was split into 3 different sections — written test, oral (reading), and conversational test.

1️⃣ Written test

I actually studied quite hard for this test! I spent days revising Malay vocab and word order, and i somehow managed to memorise a lot of the vocabulary, however, during the test i somehow blanked out 😭 I’m not really the type to get nervous about tests/exams, but i was starting to panic because i was forgetting all the words i’ve clearly studied and saw before! I had some extra time after i finished the paper so i did what every normal sane exam taker does and i counted every question i was unsure about or thought i was gonna be wrong to calculate an estimate of my marks LOL 😵‍💫

2️⃣ Oral (Reading)

The oral reading assessment was definitely the easiest, especially since our Cikgu gave us some hints/tips for the oral (like the pronunciation of universiti). Also, like i mentioned in my Malay 1 Month Mark post (read here: Jet Trys: Learning Malay (My 1 Month Mark) 🇲🇾 ) i think one of my strengths in Malay is that i have decent rhythm, flow, and prosody, so reading was for sure the easiest, and the one im most confident in 💪🏻😚

3️⃣ Conversational test

When it comes to conversational speaking, i think i did really well and im vvv proud of myself! As a natural born yapper it would be a shame if i didnt use that for good HAHAHA also i think that conversing is the most important aspect of every language so its the part i always try to focus the most on 😌 My Cikgu said she will prompt a main question and she will prompt additional questions based on how satisfied she is with our answers — and the thing is, i only got prompted 1 additional time!! And also she said i did a good job right after i was done 🥹

I’ll receive my results in about a week’s time so im going to be ballsy and try to predict my grades hahahaha 💯

Written Quiz — im guessing C to B+

Oral — probablyyyy A- to A+

Conversational — i think i can get an A- or A

Okay so come back next week and i'll (probably) give an update on this hehe 🤠🤌🏻
