Ingredients:
-Green plantains
-Vegetable oil for frying
-Salt for seasoning
-Black pepper
Instructions:
1. Start by selecting firm green plantains. Avoid overly ripe or yellow plantains.
2. Peel the plantains
3. Cut the plantains into 1-inch thick slices.
4. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan
5. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the plantain slices to the pan in a single layer. Fry them for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until they turn golden brown.
6. Remove the fried plantain slices from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
7. Gently press each fried slice to flatten it. You can use the bottom of a glass or a flat surface.
8. Return the flattened plantains to the hot oil and fry them for an additional 1-2 minutes on each side, until they become crispy and golden brown.
9. Transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any remaining oil.
10. Sprinkle the tostones with salt and black pepper while they are still warm, to enhance their flavor.
11. Serve the tostones as a side dish or appetizer.
