how i cut and shape my nails 💅🏻

my nails grow back pretty fast, so i regularly cut them every 2-3 weeks, depending on how short i cut before. here is just a quick tutorial on how i cut my nails, because trust me, it’s super easy 😄

first i like to trim them with a nail cutter to remove the length. i don’t cut off too much because i still have to file them into shape, which already tends to remove more length during the process ☝🏼 i use a straight-edge nail cutter because it allows me to be even and consistent with the shape i want to make later. i don’t like to use the curved nail cutters because i find it harder to make a rough almond shape with enough length.

then, i go in with my nail file and start shaping. during this step, with the straight cut i just made, i have to file down a lot, but this gives me the opportunity to keep checking the progress of my filing and to see if i’m getting to where i want to be 😌 filing gives me more control than trying to trim into shape, which is why i only trim a little, then file down the rest.

i file down the sharp corners, which leaves my nails looking like a rounded-square shape. then, i go back onto the corners and taper them down to make them even more round. finally, i go towards the tip of my nail and taper even further to create that slight point to make it almond shaped. as the last step, i go underneath the sides of my nail and make sure the shape is flushed against the growth direction of my nails, just so they don’t look wonky later on 👍🏼

i do this filing process for all of my nails and will go back if i find any inconsistencies. trimming and shaping my nails usually takes about 20-30 minutes, so i like to have something to watch in the background 💕
