I would not talk about trauma but more about the expectations of the family, of this society towards us, as millennials and daughter of immigrant parents (supplement chinese dad)
I was raised by my grandmother (born in 1927) she raised me to be a married woman:
- Knowing how to cook (from 5 years old)
- Know how to sew 🪡
- know how to iron (I hated ironing my dad’s 👔)
- Know how to clean home, i was in charge of my grand brothers room
- Set the table
- go to church on sunday
- Never step up for your voice
- setting in norme society and fit into the mold without ever being noticed.
- Growing up noticing that men have more rights and freedoms than women and that it sucked to be a girl
- being assigned household chores because you are a girl and men don’t cook and clean
- Thinking that the best option was to be a doctor or a lawyer while I wanted to be either an astronaut to observe the stars, or an archaeologist to learn about ancient civilizations.
- My dad always told he hopes i will married a rich man cause my dad paid for everything i need but he pass away when i was 16.
- grow while taking attention to society’s expectations
- growing up thinking that a woman is only complete if she is married and has children
- grow up being satisfied with the minimum of a man and be at his disposal as a wife
Today as a 31 years old woman, i would like to said to my dad: “im my own rich man Dad”, i cook for my friends, family, appreciate my own company, travel, writing digital contents to inspire others women, coach to gain in confidence, create a better place on earth for our future daughters🫶🏻
