5 Years of LDR — tips & what I’ve learned

Met him since highschool, dated since 18 & counting. (I’m 22 this year & he’s 23). Been doing distance IDN-AU for 5 years but i can say that I’m happy & content! Also ending distance this September!?🥹🥹

Here’s 5 tips i guess?

1. “TRUST, TRUST, TRUST” say it with me

LISTEN distance is enjoyable & possible with the right person. The number one rule is to only do it with someone you can fully trust, Assumptions is the biggest enemy here. You can't be paranoid and be worry about where he go, who he's with 24/7. A good partner would do the bare minimum of updating you about places he goes & who he's

2. Treat calls as dates ☎️

Communication is key, set a time for a QUALITY call with 0 distraction. It's quality over quantity. Catch up on life, updates, thoughts & future plan. My favourite question had to be "Are you happy? is there anything i could do better?" that's how i give him a safe place to really communicate his concern or feedbacks to improve our relationship.

3. Commitment & future 🔑

Feelings are temporary it goes up and down, you need commitment, More than that, talk about what's next, When you know there's a CLEAR future with him you're doing LDR with a purpose. What do you guys want? Does his goals and plans align with yours? Do both of you see each other as a lifetime partner? Marriage? Kids? Expectations?

4. Plan a visit ✈️

If possible, visit each other, a surprise visit is the best kinds :") especially after months or years of not seeing each other (my longest was 2 years during pandemic). "Absence makes the heart grow fonder"

5. Celebrate even from afar 💌

Celebrate small & big wins even from miles away birthdays, Anniversaries, Valentines, Graduations, First job, Promotion, anything. it could be some flowers, a video, ordering gifts online, E-card, foods delivery and more!
