as the land of unparalleled beauty with the best skincare & make-up products, Korea is definitely a tourist hotspot, especially for women! Last year, I’ve had the opportunity to stay in Korea for almost half a year because of exchange, and I’d like to share some of my experiences which could hopefully help you travel SAFER in Korea!

⚠️ Wearing Shorts?

If you’ve been to Korea, you’d find out that locals are quite conservative in terms of dressing, and most still wear long pants even in summer. personally, I haven’t had the best experience wearing shorts and there were a few weird experiences that I’ve encountered 😵‍💫 there was this one time where I was bending down and tying my shoelace while waiting for the traffic light to turn green, and my friend actually saw this old man snapping a photo of me from the back - probably took a photo of my ass since I was wearing denim shorts and bending 🫠 that being said, id still encourage most girlies to dress however they like, but just be careful especially if you’re wearing shorts!

⚠️ Clubbing

I personally did not encounter anything too traumatic when I went to Korean clubs, and most men were quite respectful when you reject them — while some may take a little more than just saying ‘no’. in those cases, just politely push them away and you’d be good!

my friends had wilder stories of how they got chased by a drunk man after the clubs closed, encountering a rich dude who’d drive them from clubs to clubs, or making out with kpop celebrities, etc 🤣 the club scene is indeed crazy, so it’s really important to not get drunk. drink in moderation, and share your addresses with your trusted friends that you’re clubbing with just in case you get black-out drunk.

⚠️ Getting Hit On

Korean men are really… confident and daring, which is honestly quite respectable because you can be in a crowded public mall and a guy will still dare to ask for your phone number in front of everyone 😅😅 anyways it’s not uncommon to have guys ask for your numbers/KakaoTalk (WhatsApp in Korea) especially when you’re alone, so don’t be surprised when it happens! you can either just give it to them or reject them politely 👍🏻
