Can You Use Bumble To Make Friends? 🌎

During my exchange in Korea (before school started), I didn’t have many friends that I could hang out with and I started feeling quite lonely. My friend encouraged me to try bumble 🐝 so I could meet others and make friends, which I’m glad I did because I’ve met so many people who came from all walks of life!

ngl when I was otw to meet my first ever bumble match, I was feeling a little nervous because I wasn’t sure if we would click irl! but I’m so glad we did and my bumble experiences have been pretty good so far!! and even though some of my friends had horror stories with their matches, it’s still a story to tell at the end! 😂

id say if you’re feeling pretty lonely and haven’t had the chance to meet new people, try the app! put yourself out there and create these opportunities for yourself! in fact, there’s really nothing much you could lose! anyways, here are some tips that could hopefully help you enhance your experience:

creating a bumble profile:

- if you’re attached and wary about giving the wrong impression to others/afraid you’d make your partner worry, just state that you’re attached & your intentions clearly “just here to make friends bla bla” I’ve seen lots of people put photos of themselves with their partners so that’s quite cute! ☺️

- i find profiles with indications of their hobbies/interests especially cool — like if you like animals, use photos of yourself with animals or if you like surfing, choose a cool photo of you surfing! 🏄‍♂️ this will help with generating great conversation starters and attract those with similar interests!

- I also really like how bumble adds in segments like ‘favourite quotes’ or ‘Spotify playlists’ music 🎵 or other leading questions that can help add personality, so have a genuine take at those questions!

- use photos with friends (but not as the cover pic!) I generally think people who posts cute and fun photos with their friends are friendlier & easier to approach!

starting conversations:

- don’t just start with a hello and wait for a response! a good tip that most people go for is to ask a question or comment on something you find unique about their profile! maybe something that I’d do is like “hey! cool surfing pics!!! where’s the beach?” (ok I’m not the best at this but you get what I mean… 🫠)

- another way you can start is finding similarities through your interests! for example if you like a certain singer on his/her Spotify profile, tell them!! they’d most likely be excited to share their favourite songs from the album with you! and it’s always nice to have common topics to talk about 😆

before going out:

- ask for their ig!!! I usually do this before meeting them irl because I can tell quite a bit about the person by their ig feeds (if they like posting beach photos and have hobbies like surfing - they’re probably quite adventurous! in that case I will suggest our first meet up to consist of a fun activity so that he/she can open up easily)

- have a conversation with them online for at least 2-3 days so you can sus out any red flags 🚩! it also helps when you build a conversation with them before going out - which you can continue when you’re out with them! ask them what they like to do usually and you guys can plan a date around that!

going on your first date with them:

- be punctual/early, and just smile! I open up faster to people who are more smiley/laugh a lot because that makes me more comfortable!

- or if you’re really nervous or unsure about your first date, ask a friend along! never hurts to have someone you’re more comfortable with beside you!

- and most importantly, just be yourself and remember to have fun! 😉
