Take a peek at my four film cameras that I have!

Recently I decided to pick up film photography as a hobby, and while film is notoriously an expensive hobby to pick up, I wanted to start while keeping costs low, especially because I have a tendency to pick up hobbies and abandon them soon after. I knew literally nothing at all about photography but learned some basics from videos and infographics, and picked up some simple cameras. If you’re wanting to start getting into film without breaking the bank then these in my opinion are are 4 good cameras to start with

📷instax mini 8

This is your traditional Polaroid camera, it’s not the most recent model and I got it on resale so it ended up being about $40! The film costs are high considering you only get about 10 exposures so you need to make sure you know what you’re using it for so you don’t waste film, but if you want something for fun with your friends it’s a great buy

📷Nikon EM

This camera is a great choice for beginners new to film and photography in general that want an SLR. It’s an aperture priority camera, meaning you pick the aperture and the camera suggests a shutter speed, and if you don’t know what these words mean you can start by researching the exposure triangle. It takes traditional 35mm film and got a used one for less than $200!

📷Kodak M38

This is your traditional point and shoot camera, very similar to a disposable but better for the environment because you can reuse it by putting 35mm film in. It has a built in flash but it’s size makes it portable. It’s super easy to use and costs less than $40. This is a model with a better flash and a bit bigger than the Kodak M35, and it comes in some adorable colors as well!

📷Holga 120N

This is my first medium format camera, I wanted to dip my toes into medium format without breaking the bank so I went with this one. It’s lightweight and made of plastic, which means there’s bound to be light leaks and a nice vignette look. You need 120mm film in this camera which comes with half the exposures of 35mm. It costs less than $40 and is a toy, but it’s a great way to see if you like this kind of film. I haven’t gotten photos from this one developed yet but I’m excited to see them!
