Apart from certain degrees required to enter certain industries i.e. law, medicine, I feel that the supply of annual graduates far exceeds the number of quality jobs offered. The value of higher education declines when universities confer too many degrees and/or when most students have good grades. Take a look at the rising enrolment numbers, the number of graduates, and how common it is to have.

Layoffs across industries amid a slowing economy and certain industries with a higher concentration of foreigners doesn’t help at all. Cycle: foreigners prefer working with their own, locals will not want to work at such workplaces with its distinctive culture. Also the foreseeable and current influx due to the low birth exacerbates it.

The already limited graduate positions are mostly filled with intern conversions (low rate) and internships are no easier to get as they look for ‘relevant intern experiences’. Quality target jobs are hard to find when you have a handful of openings with hundreds of graduates, many of whom have 3-4 internships and hold some leadership position in some CCA.

Is it unreasonable in today’s market to ask for a wage premium with a local FCH degree? Let all other factors be equal i.e. having obtained it vs not, not depends on what deg, industry etc
