My first time in Taiwan & I booked a 5 day solo trip ✌🏻 Was quite apprehensive cos I thought I would be super lonely & not be able to find much solo friendly places in a city like taipei but I was wrong!
Dining Out
Love how solo friendly eateries are here. I could have hotpot alone in the cold weather & have my favourite matcha in a cosy cafe without judgement hahaha. Definitely more solo friendly than sg dining wise & you can easily get seats for one. Options to eat were endless and I chose the ones with the best reviews, and stuck to the ones I love to eat lol. Couldn't be too adventurous when theres no one to finish my food with me 😭😂.
Activities
I wanted it to be a super super chill trip just to relax from work so I didn't do much but I did travel to Jiufen alone because I wanted to see this ghibli inspired place. I love ghibli filmssss! I didn't spend much time there actually because I felt abit tired walking so much but I think its better to go with someone so you can take pictures together etc. I went to the museum, contemporary art museum in taipei. I would recommend coming once but there wasn't much to see. I spent alot of time shopping on a weekday because there's no crowd and you can try on clothes endlessly in peace hahahaha. I get pretty tired when I'm travelling so knowing myself I kept activities light and accessible by bus/train!
Experience
Dealing without company in a city definitely feels more lonely and it got to me somewhere in those 5 days but I'm super grateful for this experience still! I think the best part was that I could speak the language unlike my first solo trip to chiang mai where there was a language barrier (and people thought I was thai). Its super super superrr safe and more solo friendly than sg like eating and activity wise so would 100% recommend if you're thinking of where to go for a solo trip. I loveeee the weather here in november and was soaking up every bit of it hahahaha. I got to pack light as well so got more space for shopping hehehe. Easy to get around as well with the buses & trains- just get an east card, top up $500 twd & it will last you 5 days for just Taipei.
Overall solo experience in Taipei was 7/10 and would come back here but with company on the next round so I can try more food & travel abit further to explore more 🫶🏻
