the books for the month of september were rough 🥴

september was a rough patch for reading, oof….

i wouldn’t even count the first two cause i just love reading series back to back. i’m that person who would binge watch a show for hours straight cause i’m just so into it and you can’t stop me. which is why i’m picky with shows 🥲

other than the series i *technically* finished (i am not reading the fourth one cause i don’t like pregnancy tropes), the books i tried to read were just ROUGH. i’m trying to stick to reading sports romances cause i’m just in that mood but none of the books in the month of september really didn’t hit me right and i wanted to share since my review was gonna be short 🥴

🎤 the mistake by elle kennedy :

girl….you’ve done better. i’m sorry but this book was a MISTAKE!!! like the couple was just unbearable to read. john logan was an okay guy. grace on the other hand….girly….you didn’t have to put john logan through all of that 😫 it was giving me second hand embarrassment!!! like WHY!!! i see what elle kennedy was ✨trying✨ to do but it didn’t hit well with me. out of the three i read, this is definitely at the bottom, sorry!!

now this!! was refreshing after that train wreck!! allie was so much fun to read and oh man, dean you DIIIIIRTY BOOOOY 😭 this book had so much spice (imo) that i needed to take a minute cause gAHDANG THESE TWO??? the chemistry between them is *chief’s kiss* i absolutely adored their relationship!! but i have to ask……WHY DID IT HAVE TO END THATS WAY???? i don’t know, i just felt like they needed to end their moment right and it wasn’t right so i didn’t feel fully satisfied when finished which is why the score is low. it’s like you put through this rollercoaster but it ends with a bLEH.

honestly, i did enjoy the off-campus series. i do recommend it if you’re looking for a spicy sports romance but you don’t NEED to read it, ya know? it’s just not a favorite series of mine.

i give the series an overall score of 3/5!

⚽️ the stand-in boyfriend by emma doherty :

i love me a good fake dating book. i love fake dating trope in general!!! but this?! how can you possibly get fake dating WRONG 😭 like HOW!!!! i’m sorry but i feel secondhand embarrassment from the characters and it made me criiiiiinge soooo hard. i don’t know why but i just picture the girl hunching the whole time cause it was so hard to imagine/picture her and the whole plot playing out. i get she’s a “shy” girl but there’s a right way to make a girl shy and this ain’t it!

📝 the trade by ki stephens :

i feel soooooo bad for not liking this one cause it’s pretty well loved in booktok but i couldn’t stand the writing. it all felt so mid to me. i’m not saying an expert of writing. i’m sure i can’t write anything better but i have read better ones than this. it’s like they’re trying to portray the typical things you see in a romance book with the characters and their mannerisms but it all felt insincere, if that makes sense? it felt too on the nose which drove me away from this book 🥲

please hope that the month of october will treat me well when it comes to books 🙏 i still have the sports romance drive in me and i am currently reading a pretty good one so i’m hoping this would be a great start for me!!
