📖Libraries📖

I am such an advocate for local libraries. I think they are criminally underrated, and you’d be surprised at all of the free resources they offer! You know that libraries have thousands of free books, but did you know that you can also rent audiobooks, movies, video games, and board games? Next time you want to host a game night at your house, consider having each guest rent a game or two from your local library. You’ll get to try out new games without spending $30-$50 on each one! All you need to get a library card is a form of ID and a home address. You can sign up online or in-person, and registration only takes a couple of minutes! There’s no downside!

🇫🇷Interest/Hobby Groups🇫🇷

Meetup is a great way to find events happening near you that are relevant to the hobbies or interests you love! Download Meetup and add in all of your interests, then browse events! You’ll be surprised at how often free events are happening near you. I’ve gone to several French conversation groups, which have saved me hundreds on French tutoring, and provided me with a more realistic look at how French is spoken in a casual setting. I’ve also attended free art gallery mixers, hot girl walks, and more!

🍃Parks and Nature Reserves🍃

I love utilizing local parks and reserves for free exercise. Most cities or suburbs have metro parks, equipped with walking, biking, hiking, and pet trails that are open to the public daily! A lot of my local parks also have an area designated for workouts, with stationary equipment like pull up bars, aerobic exercise machines, and walking machines. Go to your city or county’s Park and Recreation resource website to find out what resources are available near you!

🖼️Free Museums🖼️

When I was a broke college student, my favorite weekend activity was finding a new, free museum to explore with friends! Not only do most museums offer student discounts, but many are completely free to the public, either during the weekday, or on a special day of the month. Many museums also have a “pay what you want” entry fee — don’t be afraid to use this! Art and history should be accessible to everyone, and you’d be surprised at how many museums offer free entry!

💸No-Buy Groups💸

Facebook is a powerful tool when you’re looking to cut costs. Try joining a local “No-Buy” group in your area, and see what people are offering! Remember to be realistic about what you’ll find on there (no one is giving away a free ipad or a home), and think of resources that you can offer up as well, to help your community! Go through your closet and offer up some winter coats, or get rid of that trampoline no one has used for years in the backyard! I’ve had success both decluttering my home and gaining free items from my community. Its a fun resource that anyone can join!
