#BeReal - Life in Raffles Girls’ School

I spent my secondary school years at Raffles Girls’ School, one of the top secondary schools in Singapore.

I made a few good friends at RGS, and we are still in touch today. My RGS experience wasn’t a bed of roses, but I was still grateful for it.

✨ Cliques

During my time at RGS, there were many cliques in class. I guess you can say that it is more common in an all-girls school. However, I wasn’t part of any cliques and was on friendly terms with most of my class. Finding a partner during PE lessons was more complicated if we were told to pair up. That’s the part I was slightly worried about, haha. Luckily, I had a few good friends to pair up with in class.

✨ Bullying

Bullying is a subtle phenomenon in RGS, and I still have evidence of it today 🌚. I was subtly being teased/mocked online in my classmate’s private accounts. However, it didn’t affect me as I was focused on my studies.

✨ Competition

The competition to be the best at everything here is fierce and rampant. My friends were excellent musicians, athletes, artists, etc. RGS girls seem to be perfect at everything. They are also very independent because the teachers leave them to organise most major school events.

Fortunately, I got into RGS through the PSLE T-score admission route in 2014. Until today, people such as recruiters are still proud that I am an RGS girl. I am very grateful for that, and I will choose RGS if presented with the choice again.
