3 things my ex taught me

1. Be present: I would continuously plan the future and rush to do things instead of relaxing and enjoying that very moment. I was always pushing for more. I needed to just sit down and be grateful for what we did have and what we were building.

2. It’s okay to be emotional: My communication skills were terrible !! Everything that involved my feelings I would not talk about. I would find ways to avoid those type of conversations just so he didn’t see me cry. I was raised that way. He tried to make a safe space for me to open up. Sometime it worked but other times it backfired but we were young and still very much learning.

3. I was controlling: Things had to go my way or I was mad. I did everything on my own and didn’t want his help with anything. Any issues or stress I had I would hide it from him because I wanted to handle it on my own. He would have to yell at me to just chill out. If I opened my door, he would make me walk out and try again. He would get upset if I pumped my own gas, I would have to call him before I went so he can meet me. If something went wrong in my day and I didn’t call him it would upset him. I never allowed him to be the man.

I wouldn’t be the woman I am today if it wasn’t for him.
