Why I quit working on film sets as PA!

Been waiting too long to talk about this so here it goes !

I started getting on small film sets in my junior year of high school which was in 2016 ! Most were through a mentor that was guiding me through the film industry as a beginner! After I graduated high school I was blessed with an internship that focused on helping high school students get into making filmmaking! I was super scared to start this journey because it was something I had never imagined myself doing ! It was a lot of hard work and getting out of my comfort zone ! I was doing this for almost 2 years and suddenly began to give up because I wasn’t seeing any progress ! It was hard to keep connections and it was hard not to be frowned upon because of my skin color when it came to working on new sets! I have been on film sets where I would meet not the nicest people! Honestly, this really upset me because I was looking forward to working on more film sets! I didn’t have that sense of belonging and everyone seemed to not care to know you!

Can’t lie I have A LOT thoughts of going back to the film world because it’s something that I love doing ! But it can be a lot competition ! Is it worth going back to? 🤔 well we’ll never know.
