When I was pregnant my colleagues recommended me to get maternity insurance so that in the event of complications, I am covered plus baby can get insurance without any medical underwriting.

I wanted to know what’s the difference between the maternity insurance from different companies thus I met up with 3 financial advisors to know more. One from AIA, GE and Prudential.

This is a summary of what I like / don’t like about the different company’s maternity insurance. Do note that things like pregnancy complications, hospital care, congenital disease is quite similar between 3 companies. The price I asked for is $10k sum assured.

🤍AIA🤍

What I like:

-No medical underwriting for hospital plan and rider for baby

-No claim reward

What I don’t like:

-Priciest among the 3 company but it is still okay.

-No medical underwriting for hospital plan and rider is ONLY APPLICABLE FOR BABY BORN ON/AFTER 37 WEEKS which I feel is so stupid because if my baby is born on/after 37 weeks it’s probably full term and healthy? I feel like I would need no medical underwriting for my baby in the event where I give birth prematurely and I think a lot of people dk about this term and condition 😭 The agent did not inform me of this too, got to know this t&c from one of my friend 😢

🤍GE🤍

What I like:

-Covers juvenile conditions

-Price cheaper than AIA

-Covers more condition for hospital care

What I don’t like:

-Does not provide no medical underwriting for hospital plan 😢 I think this is so important and if I buy a maternity plan, I WANT the option of no medical underwriting for my baby.

🤍Prudential🤍

What I like:

-Cheapest price

-Covers slightly more condition to AIA

-No medical underwriting for hospital plan

-The agent (recommended by one of my friend) is also very friendly and not pushy, gave us plenty of time to think about it as I told her we need to compare with other companies. She also gave us the estimates of different sum assured so we can choose one that is within our budget 🥰

What I don’t like:

-Does not provide no medical underwriting for hospital rider.

After thinking for about 2 weeks, we ended up getting Prudential’s Prufirst Promise as

-Price is the most affordable

-If my baby is born prematurely, at least I can still get hospital plan for baby and later on add rider

-Agent recommended by friend is super friendly, not pushy and comes up with different options for us to choose (without me asking) 🥰

To mummies, which maternity insurance did you choose and why?
