I’m Glad My Mom Died Current OPINION

I literally had to stop reading to write this because I felt so strongly about it.

(Spoiler, warning) just a bit

In the book that I'm currently reading, I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

There is a chapter that discusses how she wanted to quit acting as a child, she admits that she doesn’t like it and never wanted to do it. She was only doing it for her mom. Because it was her moms dream. It made her mom happy.

In trying to make her mom happy she had to sacrifice her own happiness, something a child should never have to do.

Parents often try to live the life they wanted as a child, through their children. They want to give their kids the life they always wanted. Some adults have to realize that their children are not them. Your child may not want the same that you want for them or wanted for yourself.

I don’t have kids but when I do I’ll be sure to ask them what they want, what they desire. I’ll be there supporting their journey and giving my guidance.

This is why I feel that it is so important. That individuals do what’s best for themselves. Live the life that you want to live. It is never too late. Don’t project a reality that you want or wanted on to your children.

This is why so many adults have childhood trauma because their parents never healed their own trauma and so on, and so on. It goes back generations.

I believe that it is so important to heal yourself so that you can become the individual you desire to be. And so you can give your children their best chance and help them grow into the individuals they desire to be.

Besides you're the only one that can make you happy. happiness doesn't come from outside sources, it comes from within.
