Helping with toddler resistance!

At first glance it may seem like I’m saying to ask your toddler to do something instead of telling them-

“Would you please put on your shoes?”

vs

“Please, put on your shoes!”

But that is actually not what I am saying! And sometimes asking in that way can make things more difficult because then they have the option of just saying, “no!!” which makes the issue worse.

What I am saying is, ask them a question that prompts them to think about it and solve the issue themselves! This gives your toddler or kid more power and control over the situation and makes them want to help vs resist you!

“What else do we need to do before leaving the house?”

This will get them thinking and they will be excited to know the answer!

Try it out with your toddler and see if you notice any difference in their participation!
