How I keep my bedding cool in the Summer

Living in the desert means it gets really hot in the Summer, even at night. Sometimes my house doesn’t cool until late, and I can’t sleep when I’m hot, yet I also can’t sleep without blankets! So I’ve found the perfect combo that works for me, keeping me cool and cozy!

My number 1 tip, and this is so important, is to use only natural materials! Synthetic materials trap heat and cause a lot of sweating. Natural materials are breathable, keeping you sweat free and cool. Some of my favorites are cotton, linen, and hemp. I really like cotton muslin as it is super light and airy. I use a down comforter because I like a bit of weight to my blankets when I sleep, and it feels like I’m sleeping on a cloud. I just make sure I get a light one with cotton lining, and I use a washed cotton duvet cover.

I like to add layers so that I have options! Some nights the air does a great job and I need something just a little bit extra so I grab this super light cotton muslin coverlet. Then, if I get hot I can either throw that off the bed or throw my heavier duvet off and just use the light blanket.

Light colors aren’t necessary, but I feel like they just make everything feel a bit more summery! It might just be psychological but it works for me!
