After my first traumatic birth, I decided I would never go back to a hospital to birth my babies again, unless absolutely medically necessary. Before I even got pregnant with my youngest son, I started to prepare for my homebirth. I chose my midwife, knew her skill set & I financially prepared for out of pocket costs.

Throughout my pregnancy she reaffirmed my decision with every hour long appointment, every time she asked for consent before touching me in any way, with every question answered thoroughly and without bias - it was a dream.

When it came down to it I wanted to birth in the comfort of my own space with the people who would respect my choices.

I didn’t want to risk my child immediately being taken from me for unnecessary procedures. I wanted immediate bonding and latching. I wanted to be in the comfort of my own bed to heal and to be tended to in the first few days postpartum. I wanted to labor in the comfort of my own home and to be undisturbed. I could practically count on one hand the amount of times my team actually placed their hands anywhere near me during my labor. And ultimately, I wanted the unconditional love and support that only my team who truly knew me and my heart and desires, could give me.

I will always advocate for homebirth to be an option for every mother that desires one because it was the most incredible experience of my life. Every mother deserves to feel safe, held and to have her choices fully and completely supported!
